Following the fire that gutted its offices on Saturday, TravelSpan airline services yesterday announced that it has relocated to the King’s Plaza Hotel at 45 Main Street and services will resume there today.
Fire gutted the King Solomon building at 69 Main Street early Saturday, temporarily halting operations at Travel Span.
The origin of the blaze remains unknown but flames were spotted in the eastern section of the building’s upper flat around 3 am. It was reported that the electrical power had been turned off from the building prior to the blaze.
In a release yesterday, TravelSpan said that due to the fire, they have relocated to 45 Main Street, Georgetown (King’s Plaza Hotel) as of today. It said that passengers are asked to visit this location or call 227-1701, 227-1702 or 227-1703. The company apologized for any inconvenience caused.
TravelSpan GT, Inc is now operating as a travel agency and was housed in the bottom half of the building – which had formerly accommodated the Joe Chin’s Travel Service – for several years.
The blaze resulted in severe losses to the business. Travel consultant Priya Lall had told Stabroek News that items were looted from the business in addition to the fire which wrecked a considerable amount of items at the travel agency.
The fire is the second on Main Street within three months and follows the blaze which levelled the Humphrey building back in February. In the wake of that fire, operations at Frandec Travel Service were affected and LIAT’s office in the city was destroyed.
