Warren `Forty’ Mc Kay rode away with the top prize in the senior category of the Ansa McAl-sponsored Tropical Rhythm 60-mile cycle road race, which took place yesterday on the East Coast of Demerara.
The Roraima Bikers Club–organised event, pedalled off at 08:00 hours from the compound of Ansa McAl Trading, Industrial Site, proceeded to Mahaicony through the old road and returned, via the new road, for the finish at the Beterverwagting Public Road in the vicinity of the Ansa McAl Head Office.
McKay, who also bagged two sprint prizes during his winning ride, held off a strong challenge from Alonzo Greaves and Eric Sankar, among others in the leading pack for the top spot.
Greaves took second place while Sankar rode in third ahead of Walter Grant-Stewart, Darren Allen and Ian Jackson, who closed out the top six places in that order.
Grant-Stewart bagged the majority of the sprint prizes copping four, while Greaves, Sankar and Allen carted off one each for the senior race.
The Juniors, who rode the same rout as the senior cyclists, had their own battle for the first position, which was captured by Kurt LaRose.
Paul DeNobrega was the second junior to cross the finish line, while Davenand Bisson secured third.
Meanwhile, Kennard Lovell emerged ahead of the Veterans, who turned back at Mahaica. Lovell also bagged a sprint prize with his win.
Closing out the top three veterans were Talim Shaw and Linden Blackman who were second and third respectively.
In addition to trophies and Tropical Rhythm champion jersey, which were presented to the various first places finishers, special prizes were also presented by Ansa McAl Marketing Assistant and Tropical Rhythm Brand Manager Anjeta Hinds.
