A 53-year-old shop owner was shot dead sometime yesterday morning in the Mowasi Backdam in Konawaruk, Region Seven and police are yet to arrest the perpetrator.
Commander of E&F Division David Ramnarine told Stabroek News this morning that Montague Small of 23 B Lyng Street, Charlestown was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head yesterday morning. He said the police were unable to ascertain the circumstances of the man’s death but residents in the area who went in “pursuit of the suspect found a small firearm which we suspect was used in the shooting.”
The firearm was found with two snap rounds and one spent shell.
He said the police have not been able to gather much information as the shop is located in a very desolate area but they are investigating.
At the home of the man a relative told Stabroek News this morning that they received the news of his death sometime yesterday morning. She said that Small has been operating a ‘drinks shop’ in the backdam for about a year and he was with his nephews. The man is a father of four and prior to going into the interior he was a mason.
Recently there has been an upsurge in killings in the interior locations.
