(Trinidad Express) Low fares airline REDjet has encountered another delay in its bid to start operating in the Caribbean.
Jamaican authorities, which REDjet CEO Ian Burns said last week had given the airline the all-clear to begin operations, have now forced REDjet to postpone several flights until later this month.
At a news conference in Port of Spain last week, Burns announced the airline was cancelling 14 flights scheduled to depart from Piarco International Airport because it was unable to get the necessary approvals for its advertised May 8 start date from local aviation authorities.
The airline’s communications executive, Nyssa Pierre, told the Express yesterday that the delay from Jamaica would affect flights between Barbados and Jamaica.
Passengers booked on the affected flights between Barbados and Jamaica were yesterday sent the following notice: “Due to political and regulatory actions in Jamaica beyond our control, REDjet cannot operate flights between Barbados [and] Jamaica between May 11 and May 24. As a result, we regrettably announce that passengers booked on eight scheduled flights between Barbados, Trinidad and Jamaica will not be able to travel as planned. No other routes or flights are affected by this decision and will operate as scheduled.”
It added: “However, in keeping with REDjet’s commitment to you, our customer, we are happy to rebook you at no additional fee on a later flight. To show our appreciation of your support, we are offering you a US$50 voucher toward future travel on REDjet valid until May 2012.”
