A labourer was on Tuesday remanded when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where a charge of simple larceny was levelled against him.
It is alleged that Richard Washington, 26, of 44 Princes Street, Wortmanville, stole a laptop computer valued at $125,000.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court that on May 4 the virtual complainant placed the laptop on a concrete fence, to access an internet signal.
Two males then approached and asked for directions. The complainant attempted to show one of them the area which he was inquiring about and in the meantime his accomplice snatched the computer. When the complainant approached the accomplice, he threatened to shoot.
A report was made at the East La Penitence Police Station, where the accused was told of the allegation and charged.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry transferred the matter to Court 5 for Friday, after remanding Washington.
