Police yesterday said they had arrested the prime suspect in Friday’s night armed robbery on Mandela Avenue during searches and raids on 25 buildings
The police, in a release, said that the suspect was arrested while the police conducted searches and raids in the city and its environs. A total of 25 buildings were searched and a number of other persons were arrested pending investigations into various offences including robbery under arms, break and enter and larceny, the police said. “Two motor cycles suspected to be either stolen or unlawfully obtained have been seized by the police,” the release said. The raid by the police comes after an upsurge in armed robberies in recent weeks.
Pierre Fordyce and Wazir Mohammed were injured on Friday night while making a cash deposit at a banking machine outside Banks DIH. Reports are that around 7:45 pm, the men arrived at the Mandela Avenue location to make a night deposit when they were confronted by two men. During the melee, Fordyce sustained a gunshot wound to the groin while Mohammed was shot in the left side of his chest.
