Regal Stationery and Computer Centre over-35 males 20/20 and females open 10/10 Softball Cricket Tournament organized by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport continued last Sunday at various venues.
According to a press release, Rangers XI demolished P&B XI while Regal XI mauled Linden All Stars to book semifinal spots.
Rangers XI, the current West Demerara champions, made light work of P&B XI in their quarter-final game played at Leonora Primary School Ground.
P&B XI won the toss and elected to bat first but found themselves under early pressure, losing opening batsman Wallack Joseph with seven runs on the board in the third over bowled by left arm quick Devanand Singh.
Fallim Mohamed 63 and Mark Marlowe 37 repaired the damage in a partnership of 82.
Marlowe was later dismissed going for a big hit over midwicket. His departure saw four wickets tumbling in quick succession from the pressure applied by Rangers XI.
P&B XI eventually folded for 133 off 18.1 overs.
Hemendra Kowlessar bowling quick and straight captured 4 for 20 from 3.1 overs.
Kowlessar was well supported by all rounder Asif Ahamad who took 3 for 20 from his four overs.
In reply, Rangers lost three early wickets for 25 runs in the third over but Ahamad 53 not out and Kowlessar 49 turned things around with a partnership of 99 off 66 balls that eventually won the match for Rangers XI. Kowlessar was named Man-of-the-Match for his all round performance.
In the other quarter-final match played at Bayroc Ground in Linden, Regal XI mauled Linden All Stars XI.
Linden All Stars XI won the toss and batted first scoring a challenging 172 for 8 off 20 overs with Wayne Williams slamming 50. He was supported by Neldan Duke with 23. Bowling for Regal XI Samuel Kingston took 2 for 17 from 4 overs.
Regal XI in their reply bewildered the Lindeners when Kingston 68 not out and Mark Fung 67 not out added 160 runs off 40 balls.
The pair slammed 16 sixes with each batsman scoring eight. Kingston was named Man-of-the Match in this encounter for his good all round performance.
Meanwhile on the distaff side Ituni Warriors, the Linden champions, exacted revenge for their male counterparts by hammering Marshon Sports Club by nine wickets.
Marshon Sports Club females batted first with Natasha Parsram scoring 25 to take the Marshons to their eventual score of 65 for 6 in their 10 overs. Bowling for Ituni Warriors, Shevon McDonald, captured 2 for 17 from two overs.
Ituni Warriors made quick work of the target in their reply as they raced to 68 for 1 off 4.4 overs with Donnette Daniels scoring 30 not out off 11 balls and Yonisha Wilson 16 not out off five balls to seal the victory and gain a spot in the semifinals.
The winning team in the over-35 category will receive $100,000 and a trophy while the runners-up will receive $50,000 and a trophy. In the female category the winners will cash in on $50,000 and a trophy while the runners-up will walk away with $30,000 and a trophy.
Trophies for both male and female cricketers will also be handed out to the Best Batter-of-the-Tournament, Best Bowler-of-the-Tournament, MVP, Zone Winners, Player-of-the-Final and Best Catch-in-the-Final.
