The Guyana Bank of Trade and Industry (GBTI) donated a large quantity of cloth to the YWCA and a number of dress shirts to the Salvation Army Men’s Rehabilitation Centre “as part of its corporate responsibility to maintain healthy relations with its neighbours,” it said.
In a press release, GBTI said the donation to the Young Women’s Christian Association is to aid work at its Vocational Training Centre. The gift also complements the bank’s Women of Worth (WOW) Single Parent Loan Facility and its drive to empower women to explore their full potential.
In her address, GBTI Customer Care and Business Development Officer Roma Narayan-Singh said the bank was happy to support the work of women and it recognises the integral role that the YWCA plays in boosting their livelihoods.
In response, YWCA General Secretary Gertrude Scott extended gratitude to the bank for its generosity. She also gave assurances that the material will be put to good use. The Centre hosts sessions for young women to enhance their skills in dressmaking and other activities.
Salvation Army Counsellor Steve Sookraj, who received the shirts on behalf of the Rehabilitation Centre, thanked the bank for its demonstrated interest in enhancing the lives of less fortunate persons.
