Two men facing unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition charges were on Wednesday remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief MagistratePriya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Celestino Daniels and Hillary Matthews is that on May 3 at Kokerite Village, Barama, North West District, they had in their possession one loaded 12-gauge single barrel shotgun and four 12- gauge cartridges without licence.
A third person who was in the company of the accused was reportedly mortally wounded when the firearm they are alleged to have had in their possession accidentally went off.
Based on advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), however, the defendants were not arraigned on any charge relating to the death of the third person.
Their matter was transferred to the Acquero Magistrates’ Court for May 17.
