Kares Engineering and Bushy Park Sawmills have partnered in sponsoring a countrywide knockout 10/10 tape ball cricket tournament, labeled ‘Kares T10 Tape ball cricket tournament’, slated to begin next month.
The competition is being held in collaboration with the Guyana Softball League and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and according to a release from the Guyana Softball League yesterday, over $6 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs.
The release added that “the tournament will be free and all expenses will be taken care of by the sponsors, including balls, outfits for the umpires and officials as well grounds etc.”
This tournament will be contested in male and female categories with the top male team receiving $1,000,000, second – $400,000, third – $200,000 and fourth – $100,000, while the Man-of-the-Tournament and Man-of-the-Finals will receive one scooter each.
In the category for males there will awards for the Best Bowler, who will receive $25,000, Highest Individual Score – $25,000, and Zone Winners – $10,000 plus a trophy, along with other incentives.
Meanwhile, the winning female team will receive $500,000 and the runner-up – $250,000, while the Woman of-the-Finals will be awarded with a scooter and the Best Female Bowler – $10,000.
Other prizes will go to females with the Highest Individual Score ($10,000)and Zone Winners – $10,000, along with other incentives.
According to the release, registration is free and registration forms can be uplifted from the Guyana Softball League representatives. Rules of the tournament can also be uplifted from area representatives.
“The organizers are hoping that this tournament builds the social cohesion in communities and that the participants and fans alike use this tournament to uplift the various communities. Judging from the interest shown from the onset organizers are gearing for a record number of teams across the length and breadth of Guyana.”
The Guyana Softball League has just coordinated the GT&T 10/10 softball cricket tournament and they will be the coordinators of this tournament.
“The Guyanese public is urged to support this (variety) of the game as it brings excitement and innovation that has never been experienced before,” the release added.
