The PNCR’s youth arm, the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM), will today be holding its National Youth Convention, where the discussions held are expected to form the basis of the party’s countrywide youth strategy for the forthcoming elections.
The party’s presidential candidate David Granger will be delivering the feature address at the event, which will be held at Congress Place, a release from the party said. The convention is expected to draw young people from a wide geographic range, including regions 1, 2 and 7.
According to the release, the convention “aims to energise and mobilise the youth in preparation for the 2011 General and Regional Elections and to motivate them to play an active role in governance, and will also deal with the current youth crisis and unemployment.”
Apart from Granger, party leader Robert Corbin and acting Chairperson of the GYSM Christopher Jones will address the convention.
The event is scheduled to start at 9 am.
Meanwhile, the party says that “a massive Youth Rally will climax the convention with a march that will leave Congress Place, Sophia and proceed to the East/West Roxanne Burnham junction.”
