The Bartica Regatta Committee says the Easter Regatta is the biggest it has hosted to date with huge crowds converging on the area for the week-long programme, providing a boom in commerce for business persons.
In a press release Region Seven Chairman Holbert Knights said the programme roster included the 2011 Miss Bartica Regatta Pageant, shows by artists: Jamaican Wayne Marshall, Trinidad and Tobago’s Karma as well as local performers Classique dancers, the Thriller troupe, Big Red, Shelly G and Jory.
A massive crowd of spectators turned out to cheer on 22 power boat riders and jet skiers over two days of racing at the Regatta. The Committee also said its third annual Bartica Regatta Waves magazine is still available for patrons to acquire as souvenirs. According to the Committee it is satisfied that it was able to provide quality entertainment meeting international standard for patrons while creating an environment that allowed businesspersons to earn a significant income by providing support goods and services.
“Our boat operators, taxi drivers, hoteliers, restaurant owners, clothes vendors and snacks and food providers, beauty salons, barbers and almost all other businesses in Bartica would have experienced a one week boom in commerce,” the release said. As such the Committee said it salutes its 60 sponsors, the government, region and NDC and the media for supporting its programme. In addition, it extends felicitations to the winners in all the sport activities and the pageant.
