IMF board briefed on Strauss-Kahn charges

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The IMF executive board was briefed on criminal charges against Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn yesterday and will monitor developments in the case, the fund said in a statement.

The briefing was given by IMF acting Managing Director John Lipsky and IMF General Counsel Sean Hagan.

“The IMF and its executive board will continue to monitor developments,” IMF spokeswoman Caroline Atkinson said in a statement.

Atkinson told reporters later outside the fund’s headquarters, blocks from the White House in Washington, that no decisions were taken at the board meeting.

The 24-member board has the authority to dismiss Strauss-Kahn, although IMF board sources told Reuters it was still weighing its options and studying the charges.

Strauss-Kahn was denied bail yesterday on charges that include attempted rape and sexual abuse of a hotel maid in an upscale New York hotel.
