An unidentified man was this morning shot in the abdomen after he was reportedly caught breaking into a car parked at Premniranjan Place, Prashad Nagar.
Reports are that around 10am the man was seen in the yard of a locked house which is located next to a place of worship. He allegedly made several futile attempts to break into the house and subsequently left the yard.
This newspaper understands that the man was seen shortly after walking to a vehicle parked along Premniranjan Place. The car is owned by an employee of a mining company and was parked a short distance away.
An employee, it is unclear whether it is the same which owns the car, was alerted to the attempts being made by the man to break into the vehicle and subsequently confronted him. During the confrontation the employee discharged several shots. One of the bullets hit the perpetrator in the abdomen.
The injured man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, is currently receiving treatment and is in a critical condition. He has refused to give his name to police or hospital officials.
