A man who confessed to stealing two crocheted hats and assaulting a woman at the Port Mourant Market was yesterday sentenced to two yearsโ imprisonment
Jerry Joseph pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Magistrate Fabayoย Azore to a year each on charges of larceny and unlawful assault. The sentences will run consecutively.
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, in giving the facts of the case to the court, said that on April 23, last, Joseph went into the marketplace and removed the crocheted hats and other items on display from the stall of Entura Sarwack. He was, however, spotted by Shereta Alphonso, who pursued him. The court heard that Joseph took a wooden handled bag and inflicted lashes on Alphonso, prior to him being arrested by police on patrol.
Magistrate Azore, in handing down the sentence, told Joseph that his career choice would keep him within the walls of the prison and that it was up to him to make a change.
