The 2011 Ramcharitar Associated Construction Service 40-overs first division knockout cricket tournament was launched last Friday at the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) office in New Amsterdam.
According to a press release the tournament will be organised by the Competitions Committee of the BCB with sponsorship from Anirud Ramcharitar of Friendship Village at the cost of $220,000.
Public Relations Officer of the BCB, Hilbert Foster at the presentation ceremony stated that the Ramcharitar Associated Construction Service 40-overs tournament was first organised by the BCB in 2010.
The knockout tournament will feature teams from West Berbice Cricket Association, Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club, Edinburgh Cricket Club, Bermine Cricket Club, Police Sports Club, Young Warriors Cricket Club, Albion Community Centre Cricket Club, Rose Hall Community Centre Cricket Club, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Port Mourant Cricket Club, Scottsburg United and Skeldon Community Centre Cricket Club.
Foster expressed gratitude to Ramcharitar for continuing the sponsorship of the tournament and noted also the massive strides the BCB has been making due to the support of numerous sponsors. Players like Sewnarine Chattergoon, Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin and Rajiv Ivan are all expected to be part of the tournament, the release noted.
Treasurer of the BCB Anil Beharry praised Ramcharitar for staying on board despite the severe economic situation and pledged that the tournament will be well organised and all funds will be accounted for.
Ramcharitar expressed his delight to be associated with Berbice cricket as he was fully aware of its progress in the ancient county. Albion had won the first tournament last year while Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets were runner-ups.
Meanwhile the BCBC will bowl off the 2011 Ramcharitar first division competition in late June.
