A Miami-based firm is eyeing the establishment of a cement block factory in Linden following the recent Linden Expo held during Linden Town Week 2011 celebrations, according to the Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Development.
President of the Chamber Mervin Burnes said that the cement block factory is one of several business ventures discussed during the expo. The prospective investors had engaged the chamber in discussions about the setting up of the factory and a desperate search is being made for a suitable location in Linden.
“They hope to be up and running as long as all the legal documents are in place,” Burnes stated. In addition to the Miami investors, SEBRAE, one of Brazil’s small business associations which participated in the expo has signalled its interest in creating a steel outlet in Linden that would do distribution throughout Guyana on behalf of Brazil. Interest was also shown by local entrepreneurs from across Guyana who have indicated that they are willing and ready to establish wholesale bonds and warehouses to spur business activities in Linden.
However, the LCICD is not yet in a position to give a full report on the successes of the Linden expo but said it is sure that significant inroads had been made to the satisfaction of potential investors as well as residents of Linden.
