(BBC) India opener Virender Sehwag expects to recover from the recurrence of a right-shoulder injury in time for this summer’s tour of England.
Sehwag pulled out of playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League in May to undergo surgery on the injury that has plagued him since 2009.
He has been left out of the India squad to tour West Indies next month.
However, he told Indian newspaper Mid-Day: “I think I will be able to play the series in England.”
The 32-year-old had been leading the batting charts in the IPL, with 424 runs in 11 matches, before it was announced he was taking a break to have an operation.
“I will return to London after six weeks for a check-up,” he continued. “I should be fit in six to eight weeks.
“Going by the rehabilitation programme designed for me, I should be okay. I am already feeling the difference each day.”
Sehwag has scored 7,694 Test runs at an average of 53.43, while he has scored almost as many runs, 7,456, in one-day internationals at a strike rate of 104.07.
India, who will be led for the first time by former England coach Duncan Fletcher on their summer tour, begin with a practice match against Somerset at Taunton on 15 July, before Lord’s hosts the first of four Tests on 21 July.
The countries will also play one Twenty20 international and five one-day internationals.
