A brother who assaulted and used threatening behaviour, abusive and threatening language to his sister was yesterday fined $15,000 and bonded to keep the peace for two years after his sister begged the magistrate for lenience on his behalf.
Alberto Khan admitted that on May 16 at Georgetown, he assaulted Sabrina Seabra so as to cause her actual bodily harm. The defendant admitted that on the same day also he made use of threatening behaviour to Seabra and used abusive and threatening language to her, resulting in a breach of the peace.
Responding to the court, Khan said that he was sorry for what he had done.
When given a chance to speak, the virtual complainant (VC) said that she is facing a difficult period in her life and doesn’t want to see her brother imprisoned. She said that she is going through a divorce from her husband and her brother has been instrumental in supporting her and her children.
Begging for leniency for her brother Seabra said too that she has never had previous problems with him. She asked Magistrate Sueanna Lovell before whom the matter was called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to place her brother on a bond instead of imposing a prison sentence.
No details of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court by the prosecution.
Magistrate Lovell placed the defendant on a bond to keep the peace for two years and ordered him to pay a $15,000 fine or spend one month, three weeks in prison.
