Canadian injured in seawall shooting

A Canadian national was shot yesterday after he scuffled with a bandit while jogging on the seawall.

Peter Foulhaber, a 58-year-old is a patient of the Georgetown Hospital nursing a gunshot wound to the thigh.ย  Foulhaber is the adviser on crime prevention to the UN here. He served as a policeman in Canada for 26 years. He has been in Guyana for three months.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News this morning, that the man is employed with a United Nations agency here. He said that around 1800 hours, the man was jogging on the seawalls when he was attacked by two men.

Persaud explained that the suspects were sitting on the seawall and as Foulhaber was about to pass, one jumped in front of him while the other choked him from behind.

According to Seelall the man told investigators that there was a scuffle during which a gun that one of the attackers had went off.

The perpetrators escaped with an IPod that Foulhaber had in his possession.
