North Georgetown Girls, East Ruimveldt and Tucville Boys all maintained their unbeaten streaks to storm into the finals of the inaugural Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Football Academy when the semi finals were contested on Saturday at the Carifesta Sports Complex (CSC) Ground.
Led by another unstoppable performance from Althea Holligan, North Georgetown humbled Queen’s College 5 – 0 in the opening match up, Tucville outplayed Lodge Secondary 3 – 1 and East Ruimveldt trounced Christ Church 4 – 2.
The other match between Tucville and East Ruimveldt girls was not played because of a complication but the two sides are scheduled to play on Wednesday at the Guyana National Service (GNS) Ground to decide who faces North Georgetown in the final.
On Saturday, Holligan recorded her second helmet-trick of the tournament and is now regarded as the most dangerous player in the tournament.
Holligan scored as early as eight minute then proceeded to pile on more goals to her tally.
She added goals in the 20th, 27th and 42nd minutes to totally shift the balance of the battle while her teammate Mariska Corbin cashed in with a 55th minute goal.
In game two Alex Alexander pushed Tucville ahead with an early fourth minute goal then completed his brace in the second half as he scored in the 54th minute.
James Fraser managed to pull one back for Lodge in the 67th minute but the two-goal lead was soon restored with a Randy Layne 70th-minute goal for Tucville.
The final match of the day saw East Ruimveldt claiming a come-from-behind win as Nyron Joseph and Travis Fitzpatrick scored for Christ Church in the 29th and 30th minutes then Trevil Prepont pulling back on for the eventual victors in the 41st minute.
The equalizer came in the final minute of the match as Shabaka Welch scored to send the match up into extra time. Extra time saw East Ruimveldt shooting ahead when Craig Hughes struck two terrific shots on target to disturb the net in the 77th and 79th minutes.
