KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – West Indies officials have re-branded the regional limited-overs championship.
Directors of the West Indies Cricket Board have approved the changing of the name of the tournament to the “Regional Super50” at their meeting in the Jamaica capital over the weekend.
The WICB announced yesterday in a media release that the tournament will be played in Guyana, and the schedule will be announced at a later date.
WICB directors also agreed that the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship will be staged as it has been since its inception in two territories.
Under a similar format for the two previous editions, Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval, and Kensington Oval in Barbados will stage the competition from January 9 to 22, with the Bridgetown leg incorporating the semi-finals and the Final.
The directors also approved the event concept for a new WICB initiative – beach cricket, which had been proposed as part of a new thrust in its marketing plan two years ago.
