Hot out of the fire of the RAMPAGE fight card last month, Mark Austin and Revlon Lake will headline the regular Fight Night card for the lightweight title of Guyana come June 24 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) commencing from 20:00hrs.
The card is being organized by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) along with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA).
Austin (5-1-1) will look to stay undefeated against Lake (4-5-2) when they meet for a second time following his victory in September last year.
While the stakes will be higher this time with the title belt on the line Austin expressed his confidence at a press conference at the National Communication Network (NCN).
“I have been sparring a lot for this fight and I beat him already so I’m going out there to do my thing,” Austin commented.
Denny Dalton (16-10-1) will make his first appearance in the ring for 2011 since losing to Raul Frank in November last year to take on Trinidad-based Guyanese Joel McRae in a six-round super middleweight bout.
“Preparation is good and everything is good and putting Denny in front of me was a good decision by the board, so I’ll kiss the canvas now because somebody will kiss it soon, so all I’ll say is just don’t blink,” McRae commented after kissing the floor.
Dalton in his reply concluded that “it’s the return of the ‘Deadly’ so I don’t make predictions but the Holy Spirit makes my predictions for me,” he stated.
The Fight Night will also see Simeon ‘Candyman’ Hardy (3-0-0), the man with the fastest knockout in fight night history of 29s in the first round taking on Eversley Brown (0-3-0) in a four round catchweight match-up while Ray Sandiford (1-0-0) will trade punches with Orlon Rogers (3-10-0) in a similar bout.
Meanwhile the amateur boxers will be set to open the night with four fights. Two of the amateurs who are headed to the Pan American qualifiers in Panama City, Panama will do battle on the night.
Imran Khan who is a part of the team will take on Richard Williamson in a flyweight 3 round bout while Stefan Gouveia who is on the team as well will go against Andrew Lowenfield in a lightweight 3 round match-up.
The other two bouts will see Marvin Adegeda versus Delroy Nero while Delon Allicock will go up against Benjamin Henry.
“Well you will see a difference from them as they have learnt fundamental and foundation things from the road to London camp that they are in and should use their punches better in the fight because they have learnt what the judges look for when they score points,” Organizer of Tournaments for GABA, Terrence Poole stated.
President of the GBBC, Peter Abdool also complimented GABA on the good job that they are doing which has helped with the success of the Fight Night cards and in so doing allowing the success of the RAMPAGE card that was held last month.
“The purpose of the Fight Night is to boost both levels of the sport and hopefully they bring back the medals they are training for,” Abdool stated.
Abdool has also indicated that in the future he wants to hold a Contender Series which will incorporate fourteen boxers from the middleweight to super middleweight division coming up or going down to 160lbs.
The tournament will also see the boxers being monitored to get an insight into their lifestyle. They will be taking on each other in a knockout tournament that will see the winner gaining the CABOFE title, the 160lb title, a higher WBC ranking and possibly $4-5 million after winning the tournament.
Meanwhile Abdool and Poole urged the public to come out and support the card, especially the amateurs so they can get accustomed to fighting before crowds. Entrance fee will be $1,000.
