A city resident who was allegedly caught with two kilogrammes of cocaine while on his way to Suriname yesterday appeared in the Whim Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to prison.
Police said yesterday that Ivan Douglas, 23, of Fifth Street, Alberttown, was charged with trafficking in narcotics when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and will return to court on June 30.
Around 0850 hours on Sunday police ranks stopped and searched motor vehicle PJJ 9393 en route to Suriname at Molsen Creek, Corentyne.
During the search, two kilogrammes of cocaine and 89 grammes of hashish were found. A man and a woman were arrested and the motor vehicle detained.
