A miner was stabbed to death during an altercation in Black Water Backdam, in Region Eight on Tuesday.
Police yesterday said that the only name given for the deceased is ‘Steve.’ According to a press release, the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the man, which occurred at around 1330 hours.
Investigations revealed that the victim, who was suffering from a suspected stab wound to his neck, was being transported by vehicle and reportedly succumbed to his injury during the journey.
Sources in Lethem told Stabroek News that when the man arrived he was pronounced dead on arrival. According to a source, the man had several stab wounds but he would not say to which parts of the body.
This newspaper was told that preparations are being made to transport the body to the city for a post-mortem examination. The body is presently at the Mahdia Hospital Mortuary.
