PASADENA, California, CMC – United States blew a comfy 2-0 lead as Mexico hit back to score twice on either side of half-time to score a convincing 4-2 victory and repeat as CONCACAF Gold Cup champions on Saturday night.
Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan had put the United States ahead at the half-way point of the first half at the Rowe Bowl, with a rout seemingly on the card before a record attendance of 93 420 spectators.
But Mexico found their nerve quickly and Pablo Barrera and Andrés Guardado netted to level the contest at half-time.
From thereon, it was all Mexico as Barrera added a third just after the break before Giovani Dos Santos put an exclamation mark on the triumph late in the second half.
