Guyanese businessman Desmond ‘DA’ Alphonso arrived here around midday from the British Virgin Islands from where he was deported after living there for the past forty years.
Alphonso was expected to leave the island since Sunday morning but had refused to go.
Stabroek News understands that the man left the BVI at around 7 am today on a Beach King Air private airplane which was chartered. Civil Aviation sources here told Stabroek News that permission was given in the last 72 hours for the aircraft to land and the man is expected to be processed through immigration when he arrives.
After his arrival he was taken to Police Headquarters, Eve Leary. Deportees go through a series of procedures on their arrival here.
Alphonso first encountered trouble in the BVI after he was charged and ultimately spent four years in prison for harbouring three murderers.
In addition Alphonso was found not guilty of killing one of the murderers – Marlon Bailey. His reputation however took a beating after this. The Guyanese-born businessman has been living in the Virgin Islands for over 40 plus years, and has what is known as “belonger’s status”.
