A Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara man was last evening rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) nursing a chop wound to the head following a fight with his mother.
A relative of Deonarine Persaud, said to be in his mid-thirties, told Stabroek News at the GPH that the man had been arguing with his mother early last evening when he became abusive. She said that some time after 7 pm, the man, whom she described as a drug addict, began to physically assault his siblings and after his mother intervened, “he pick up a paling stave and start hit she”.
She said the elderly woman ran in the house and grabbed a cutlass to defend herself and according to her, “he go fa hit she again and she fire a chop at he”.
Persaud sustained deep wound to the left side of his head and he was subsequently rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital by relatives. He was later transferred to the GPH for further treatment as the wound was said to be severe.
The man moaned in pain as he was let into the Accident and Emergency Unit of the GPH last evening; a sibling who accompanied him to the hospital left to go and look after their mother.
The matter was reported to the Leonora Police Station last evening.
