Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee said private security firms provide a key service in national security, when he met with the newly elected members of the Guyana Association of Private Security Organisations (GAPSO) on Tuesday.
Rohee told the meeting that the ministry aims to become better acquainted with the group and cooperate on matters of mutual interest, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said. “In 2009 we presented in the Parliament the private security services regulation bill after lengthy discussion with GAPSO,” the minister said.
In addition, Chairman of GAPSO Major General (retd) Norman McLean said that new executives are ready and eager to work along with the ministry since “we see ourselves as arms of the total security package of this country.” McLean noted that the meeting will be used to outline the types of support that the organisation will need from the government and more so the ministry.
GAPSO comprises former members of the Guyana Police Force and proprietors of private security services including former Commissioner of Police Floyd Mc Donald, and Roshan Khan of RK’s Security.
