Defending champion, Jeremy Miller surprised his skeptics as he produced a brilliant performance to land himself in the Men’s Singles final of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Open Lawn Tennis Tournament scheduled for tonight from 18:00hrs at the GBTI Sports Club.
Miller who had a below par tournament in the Macorp Open a couple of months ago where he lost to Ezra Sue-Ho in the final, played his way back to form as he easily trounced Leyland Leacock in his semifinal match-up last Monday evening.
The lop sided game ended 6-0, 6-2 and lasted just over an hour as Miller booked his place in the final to play against Anthony Downes who is the fan favorite to walk away with the title tonight.Downes’ play throughout the tournament has been impressive as he outplayed second seeded Ezra Sue-Ho 6-4, 6-2 in his semi-final encounter as well as former champion Phillip Squires in the quarterfinal round.
Meanwhile, Miller has already captured the Mixed Doubles title when he partnered with Shelly Ramdyhan and added the Men’s Doubles title to his accolade when he teamed up with Jason Andrews and now he will look to add the Men’s Singles to his name as well.
The finals between the two is expected to be highly competitive as Downes will look to stop Miller from claiming three titles at the GBTI tournament tonight.
