An East Coast woman died this afternoon after a police vehicle reportedly slammed into her following a near collision.
Dead is Santrine Sookdeo, 67, of Cove and John, East Coast Demerara. Sookdeo sustained massive injuries; her body was badly crushed, both legs smashed beyond recognition.
She reportedly died within minutes of the impact and was lying on the road for some time before being rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Three other persons, including two police officers were injured in the accident.
Detective Constable Anthony Reis told Stabroek News he was sleeping at the time and “don’t know what happened”.
Lucille Abrams, 38 of Enmore also sustained serious injuries.
Reports are that the police vehicle, which was on patrol, swerved to avoid a collision with a Canter truck and slammed into Sookdeo and others who were standing on the road.
