Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Under-15 allrounder Arif Chan was on Tuesday honoured by the Special Events Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the recently held Guyana Cricket Board Under-15 Inter-county Tournament.
Chan was chosen by Manager Leslie Solomon after his brilliant allround performance led Berbice to the championship. Chan scored 83 runs in two innings versus Essequibo and Demerara at an average of 83 and took seven wickets in the tournament.
Chairman of the Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster at the presentation ceremony congratulated Chan on behalf of the Berbice Cricket Board for his outstanding performance and discipline.
Foster also challenged Chan to uphold his high standard, to always strive for excellence and to be a role model to his peers.
He congratulated Chan on his selection on the National Under-15 team and urged him to make both the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and the Berbice Cricket Board proud of him.
He pledged too that the BCB would continue its assistance in the development of all young cricketers in Berbice.
An emotional Chan expressed gratitude to the BCB for his prize of a bicycle, stating that he would use it to attend school and cricket practice. He also pledged that he would continue to perform on the cricket field as his goal is to represent Guyana and the West Indies at the highest level.
