Barama Company Limited donated a quantity of wood valued over $1M to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) to help rebuild houses in Lethem that were damaged during the recent flooding there.
Director General CDC, Colonel (ret’d) Chabilall Ramsarup and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health George Jervis accepted the donation from Barama CEO Clement Ooi and Head of Corporate Affairs Mahindra Chand. The donation also includes pieces of plywood.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, Ramsarup and Jervis extended gratitude to the company for the gesture. Ramsarup said he was certain that the region will make maximum use of the plywood and the other materials.
In early June, villages in Region Nine and its administrative centre at Lethem were inundated for days due to overtopping of bordering rivers, GINA said.
