(Jamaica Gleaner) Prosecutors in the United States have filed documents in court urging the judge to allow the wiretap evidence that they believe can help them send alleged criminal kingpin Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke to prison for a long, long time.
The prosecutors have also slammed Coke, who is facing drugs and gunrunning charges, for not raising the matter of the legality of the wiretaps in a Jamaican court before he waived his right to challenge the extradition order.
“Coke had, and specifically declined, the opportunity to raise these claims in Jamaica, with jurisdiction over his extradition.
“Having waived that right, Coke now seeks to transform alleged violations of Jamaican law into violations of his right to due process under the United States Constitution,” the prosecutors said in documents filed in the United States District Court in the Southern District of New York on Wednesday.
