Well-known Guyanese dancer and entertainer of yesteryear Pita Pyaree has passed away at the age of 94.
Pyaree, also known as Munia Tulsiram passed away on Wednesday. Her death announcement in today’s edition of Stabroek News said that she was a “Mother figure, friend and inspiration to many. She was recognized for her sterling contribution to Indian music and dance for a period of over 50 years in Guyana’s history and was the recipient of the Wordsworth McAndrew Award, the Indian Comemoration Trust Award and the Indian Arrival Committee Award”.
Her funeral will take place tomorrow. The funeral service will be held at the Lyken funeral parlour from 9.30 am to 11.30 am followed by cremation at Kashi Dam, Ruimzigt. Pyaree was formerly of Aurora Village on the Essequibo Coast.
