Heavy rain yesterday prevented any play on the opening day of the 2011 Regional Under-15 cricket series between Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana and Jamaica and the Windwards.
The only game that saw action was the Barbados versus Leeward Islands encounter at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva. Heavy overnight and early morning rain prevented the players from Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana from stepping onto the playing arena at the Avidesh Samaroo ground in Endeavour and although around midday the weather improved, the umpires had to take into consideration the players’ safety as the outfield remained slippery. After five inspections during the day, they finally called off play at 3.30pm. Play on the second and final day today will begin at 9.30am to make up for some lost time.
At Couva, the Leewards reached 66 for three against Barbados when a final decisive shower arrived at 4.30pm and prevented any further action.
