CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Teams began arriving yesterday in rainy conditions for the annual Windward Islands Under-19 championship, set to start on Monday with two matches.
This year’s tournament is being limited to a round-robin format of two-day matches at two venues – the Mindoo Phillip Park and the Gros-Islet Playing Field.
Hosts St. Lucia were the winners of both the league and knockout formats of the tournament last year.
In the opening fixtures, the St. Lucians face Grenada at the Gros-Islet Playing Field, while St. Vincent & the Grenadines meet Dominica in the other clash at the Mindoo Phillip Park.
A Windward Islands team will be selected to leave for the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge to be staged in Guyana later this month.
The selection panel comprises Keith Charlery of St. Lucia, Raphael Croney of Grenada, and Vincentian Irving Warrican.
