Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Orealla, Corentyne River resident, allegedly by a police constable early yesterday morning in the Amerindian community.
The dead man, police said, is Terry Wayne Jack. He was reportedly shot at the village outpost station at about 12:35 am yesterday.
According to the police, initial investigations reveal that the police constable was at the outpost with the deceased, another man and two females at the time of the incident.
Stabroek News was told that at the time the group had been consuming alcohol at the outpost. This newspaper was told that the police constable is alleging that Jack took away his gun and shot himself.
According to reports, the police visited the community yesterday to investigate the incident. The body of the dead man was transported to the Skeldon Hospital Mortuary where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Jack, this newspaper was told, was employed in the forestry sector. He was unmarried and had no children. He was described as an “easy going guy” who didn’t have trouble with anybody.
