PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Multiple flyweight world champion Ria Ramnarine will now face Russian Anastasia Toktaulova, after the original challenger Mayerli Altamar of Colombia pulled out.
Altamar was forced to find another opponent after the card was hit with a series of postponements because of a lack of funding.
Ramnarine said, however, she was looking forward to facing the 34-year-old Russian who was expected to provide much tougher opposition.
“Because of the postponement of this card, Altamar took on another fight, so we were forced to seek another opponent,” Ramnarine explained.
“I believe that Anastasia is going to bring a lot more to the table, so all in all, I think it may have been for the best. She is going to bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the ring.”
Based in the United States, Toktaulova has compiled a record of 13-10-0 during her 13-year career as opposed to the 17-year-old Altamar’s 10-1-2.
Ramnarine (14-5-1), meanwhile, is the holder of the WBC Cabofe, WIBF, WIBA and GBU flyweight belts and will also be fighting for the IBF, UBC and WBC world titles.
The card is scheduled to take place on July 29 at the Jean Pierre Complex in Mucurapo.
