The body of Herstelling fisherman Lakeraj Mahadeo was yesterday afternoon pulled from the Demerara River on the West Bank of Demerara.
Mahadeo, 39, left his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home around lunchtime on Tuesday to go fishing and relatives were informed by a lad that the man’s boat had overturned in the river.
A relative noted yesterday that persons saw a body on the WBD area sometime after 3 pm yesterday and it was later identified as Mahadeo’s.
A few fishermen who were with Mahadeo on the afternoon of the incident, said that the man was consuming alcohol prior to the ill-fated trip. Several search efforts were subsequently undertaken by relatives to recover the man’s body.
His body was last evening taken to the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour in the city.
