On Wednesday July 06, 2011, police ranks conducted a narcotics eradication operation at Banakari Swamp Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
According to a press release, the police found a field of about six acres under cultivation with approximately 19,000 cannabis sativa (marijuana) plants ranging between 4 feet and 8 feet in height, along with eight nurseries containing approximately 40,000 seedlings, six tarpaulin camps, 600 kgs dried cannabis sativa and 30 kgs cannabis seeds. The marijuana plants, seedlings, dried cannabis and seeds were destroyed.
However, the release said that no one was arrested.
