New Amsterdam Multilateral overpowered Brickdam Secondary when the National Schools Basketball Festival continued on Wednesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The game ended 49-23 in favour of NA Multilateral in the Division Two match-up organized by the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
While NA Multilateral seemed a bit loose as they gave away a lot of turnovers, Brickdam was incapable of capitalizing on their opponent’s inconsistent passing which led to numerous turnovers during the game.
Shawn D’Aguiar’s double-double led the way for NA Multilateral with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Hubern Evans provided the Berbice team with a game high of 15 points.
Brickdam’s only meaningful contribution came from Rawle Devonish with 8 points and 6 rebounds in Brickdam’s third consecutive loss at the festival.
Port Mourant blew out St. Rose’s High by 16 points as the game ended 46-30 in the Division Two encounter.
While the score line indicates that it was a blowout win for Port Mourant, the Berbicians were kept in check with stifling defence from the Georgetown side until the final seven minutes of the game.
Antonio Aslam was outstanding for Port Mourant as his ability to create shots for himself and his teammates overwhelmed Rose’s. He ended on 11 points and seven assists while Trevon McRea contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds to the win.
Clarence Canterbury scored a game high 14 points for St. Rose’s in the losing effort.
Meanwhile the Under-16 match-ups also had some intense action as Kwakwani Jr. held off Plaisance Jr. 30-21 to pick up the win.
Kwakwani’s individual talent simply outplayed the Plaisance team in every facet of the game to eventually walk away with a comfortable victory.
Eon Meredith dropped 10 points to help Kwakwani secure the win while Kelvin Yorrick’s 11 points and five rebounds were not enough to lift Plaisance over the Lindeners.
Meanwhile Darroll Williams’s individual score of 32 points matched the total team points for Marian Academy Jr. as St. Stanislaus registered a blowout win on their Georgetown counterparts.
The game ended 47-32 as Williams continued his assault on Marian’s defence, looking unstoppable during the game.
Marian’s Andrew Peroune’s double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds were too little to combat Williams’ performance in the blowout loss.
