(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – In a letter to the Surinamese Football League (SVB), Marc Cavaliero, secretary of FIFA’s ethics committee, has asked for the return of the US$ 40,000 paid by the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) to representatives of the SVB and other members of the CFU. The committee says it has made this decision after questioning SVB chairman Louis Giskus in Zurich, Switzerland. During the questioning, Giskus insisted he had acted in good faith and had decided not to touch the money until the ethics committee ruled on the matter. Meanwhile, the SVB ordered a bank in Suriname to wire the money to Swiss bank Credit Suisse. The CFU members were given US$ 40,000 each by FIFA Vice President Jack Warner during a meeting in Trinidad on May 10 and 11. The meeting also served to make propaganda for Mohammed bin Hannam, who was lobbying to become FIFA President at the time and was also at the meeting.
