The Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) has started conducting a series of training sessions for the selection of field managers for the upcoming polls.
In a press release, Gecom said the first leg of the training was held from July 2-3, targeting participants from District Four. The objective of the training is to allow participants, who would be appointed to manage the electoral process at the decentralised levels, to develop an understanding of organisational structure that will be used to facilitate the efficient conduct of the elections and to acquire knowledge regarding the conduct of the elections. As such, participants are being trained to develop strategies for the elections.
In addition, participants are also being taught the steps for casting a ballot, including how to treat with different categories of voters; they are also being coached about the duties and responsibilities of the management staff throughout the elections process up to the declaration of the results of elections.
Gecom said training sessions were hosted at the Hope Secondary School, Paradise Primary School and Montrose Primary School, on the East Coast Demerara; at Saint Stanislaus College, Tutorial High School, East Ruimveldt Secondary School, North Georgetown Secondary School and St Joseph High School in Georgetown; and at the Soesdyke and Providence primary schools, on the East Bank Demerara.
