Shemroy Barrington, Leon Johnson and Christopher Barnwell batted well for a Rest XI Team on the first day of the three-day practice match against the recently named Guyana Under-19 team at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) Ground, yesterday.
The match which commenced at 3pm after being delayed for most of the day due to persistent rainfall had the Rest XI side rustling up 165 runs as Barrington top scored with 65. He was supported by Johnson with 37 and Barnwell who made 39.
Kellon Carmichael looked solid in the middle order and he remains at the crease with 19. Godakesh Motie was the pick of the bowlers for the Under-19 side as he bagged four of the top order batsmen.
The match continues today with the U-19 team needing four wickets to close off the Rest XIโs first innings and Coach Raymond Barton will be hoping for a full day to observe the newly selected squad in action.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Under-19 team defeated Lusignan First Division in a 50-over encounter which was reduced to 40 overs on Saturday at the Lusignan Ground.
Guyana U-19 batted first and made 200 โ 3 in their allotted overs as Kevon Boodie led the way with a sterling 76. He received support from Dominic Rikki, Chanderpaul Hemraj and Kwame Crosse as they added 47, 32 and 17 with the bat, respectively.
In reply, Lusignan crumbled to 103 in 26.3 overs as Jamal LaFleur caused all sorts of problems and finished with seven wickets.
