The University of Guyana Economics Society (UGES) was resuscitated and officially reaccredited as an official body on the Turkeyen Campus on June 16, a press release from the society stated.
The new executive body has committed to fulfilling the objectives outlined in its constitution, which include such goals as developing a full understanding of the workings of economics both locally and globally as a supplement to knowledge gleaned at UG; exposing members to activities and programmes for personal growth and interactive learning; and generally to conduct any and all activities which will be necessary, useful or desirable for the furtherance and accomplishment of these objectives.
The new nine-member executive committee of UGES are President Suraiya I. Ramkissoon, Vice President Apollo Imhoff, Junior Vice President Allon Fernandes, Secretary Saieed I. Khalil, Treasurer Blaze Dookhoo, Assistant Secretary Richard N. Rambarran, Organising Secretary Alexander Defreitas, first year representative Dillon Johnson and second year representative Emille A. Giddings. The posts for third and fourth year representatives will be filled shortly.
According to the society’s secretary Khalil, “with the full support of the society’s members, well wishers and with the guidance of campus advisor Roger Rogers and lecturers,” it is anticipated that the objectives of the UGES will be satisfactorily accomplished.
In congratulating the members of the UGES for resuscitating the society, Deputy Registrar Theodosius Velloza said, “ Students of the UG are encouraged to participate in activities apart from classes which would serve to enrich their student life and refine life skills such as leadership and planning.”
