Guyana squeezed past Barbados with a narrow 22-run win in the 4th round of the 2011 Regional Under-15 competition at Honeymoon Park, in Trinidad yesterday.
Guyana, resuming on the last day on 47/4, ended on 89 all out, with Joshua Drakes, son of former West Indies all rounder Vasbert Drakes, producing bowling figures of 4-10. However, Barbados were shut out for just 59, as Sharaz Ramcharan 4-14 and Steven Sankar 4-18 proved difficult on the pitch.
The young Guyanese play their final game against the Windward Islands at Honeymoon Park beginning Thursday.
In the other games, opener Jeremy Solozano scored an unbeaten 135 but T&T still had to settle for a draw against the Windward Islands in their clash at Gilbert Park.
Solozano’s effort enabled T&T to finish their second innings at 184 for four off 64 overs. Also among the runs were Keron Kanhai, with 54, Jerron Maniram, with 31, and Nicholas Pooran, with 37. Set a huge 327 runs for victory, the Windwards battled well and finished on 221/5, with Roland Cato getting 65, Gidron Pope, 49 and Melville Gordon, 44. For their efforts, T&T scored 6.2 points, while the Windwards took away 3.1.
Jamaica, meanwhile, got an outright victory over the Leewards, winning by a margin of 132 runs. Resuming their second innings at 98 for six, the Jamaicans were quickly dismissed for 117 as Jeremiah Louis grabbed four wickets for 13 runs.
The Leewards, as they did in the first innings, struggled to put together decent partnerships and fell for 74 runs. Man of the match Hakeem Wright was the chief destroyer, with figures of 6-15. The win puts Jamaica at the top of the standings.
