ACM probing jailing of Grenada publisher Pierre

(Barbados Nation) BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The Association of Caribbean Media Workers was today investigating the jailing of prominent newspaper publisher Leslie Pierre on a charge of criminal defamation, ACM president Wesley Gibbings said here.

Pierre, editor of the Grenadian Voice newspaper, was detained at the Richmond Hill Prison last week after a complaint was filed against him by a lawyer for an article the newspaper published, Gibbings said. He was later bailed by a friend, according to media reports.

Pierre, 82, had recently retired from the daily operations of the paper owing to ill health, the reports said.
