Essequibo ladies suffered their second embarrassing defeat in two days, as their counterparts from the Ancient County toppled them by a mammoth 250 runs, in the 2nd match of the 2011 Inter County Women’s 50 over competition at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Ground, yesterday.
Having won the toss and elected to take 1st strike in a rain reduced 44 over encounter, the ladies from the Ancient County compiled an impressive total of 282 for 5. They were led by a magnificent 151 not out off 118 deliveries, comprising 11 boundaries and three huge sixes, from captain and number three batter Sharmaine Campbell.
Campbell shared a brilliant 207 run 5th wicket partnership with number 7 batter Trishanie Cort who scored 64 from 105 balls with a solitary boundary, as both ladies aided Berbice in recovering from the precarious position of 64 for 4.
Essequibo ladies coming off an embarrassing batting performance vs Demerara on Thursday when they were blown away for 10 runs didn’t do much better as they were scuttled for 34 in 18.4 overs with extras shamefully top scoring with 17.
The wickets were shared around for the Berbice ladies with Plasina Mullinton, Nikita Toney and Sabrina Munroe claiming figures of 3 for 6, 2 for 1 and 2 for 6 respectively.
The final round of this competition is between Berbice and Demerara at the Police Sports Club, Eve Leary tomorrow, where it will be interesting to see how these two teams perform in what basically is a final, after they both registered easy victories over a hapless Essequibo side.
