The Guyana Consumers Association presents this submission publicly appealing to all consumers to take cognizance of the likely passing of this Bill as it is in its present form. This is the final part of the Explanatory Memorandum of the Access to Information Bill 2011.
The Parliamentary Office is at present requesting any written submissions to be made to the Select Committee. This is being done to:
1. set out a practical regime of right to information;
2. for persons to secure access to information under the control of public authorities;
3. in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of the government and public authorities;
4. for the appointment of the Commissioner of Information.
The Guyana Consumers Association declares that this should not be done in a corner or in one obscure part of the media but should involve every media house and form of media to ensure that every consumer is so informed. After all we agreed as a nation with the convention which declared that every consumer is entitled to be informed.
